The Volcano Classic launched the desktop vaporizer category when Storz & Bickel released it in 2000. Twenty-six years later, the current production model delivers the same pure convection balloon experience that built its legendary reputation. We purchased and tested one to determine whether the original still earns its spot on our best desktop vaporizers list.
Vapor quality rivals the best desktops we've tested, and the stainless steel body outlasts nearly everything on the market. What holds the Classic back in 2026 is everything it doesn't do: no tube delivery, no digital temperature display, no app control. The Volcano Hybrid 9.4 fills every one of those gaps for roughly double the asking price.
For buyers who want reliable balloon delivery and nothing more, the Classic remains one of the most consistent, easiest ways to consume cannabis at home.
What's in the box
Storz & Bickel includes everything needed to start right away: the Volcano Classic base, Easy Valve filling chamber, 4 Easy Valve balloons with mouthpieces, 1 balloon with adapter, a screen set, 3 filling chamber clips, cap ring, herb mill, cleaning brush, and an air filter set.
The Easy Valve is the only chamber system available for the current Classic. It ships pre-assembled and ready to use straight out of the box.

Stainless steel body built for decade-long service
The Volcano Classic weighs 1,600 g and measures 200 × 200 × 180 mm. Its conical stainless steel shell sits permanently on a desk, looking more like a kitchen appliance than a consumer gadget.
Two mechanical toggle switches control heat and air, each with a firm, satisfying click. The analog temperature dial rotates through positions 1 to 9, covering 130°C to 230°C. A bimetallic thermostat holds temperature within ±5°C of the selected setting, adequate for most users but less precise than digital desktops.
