The Puffco Peak Pro edges the Dr. Dabber Switch 2 on our scores, 8.2 to 8.0. It's a close call, and the Peak Pro wins it by being lighter and easier to live with day to day. The Switch 2 gave us the best vapor of any eRig we've tested, so home dabbers who chase flavor should pick it.
Key differences
- Heating: the Switch 2 uses induction around a titanium chamber, with a removable 20 mm quartz insert and an infrared sensor. The Peak Pro heats its 3DXL ceramic chamber through the sidewalls and regulates in real time.
- Upkeep: no atomizer to replace on the Switch 2. The Peak Pro's chamber is a consumable.
- Temperature range: 121°C to 343°C on the Switch 2, and 204°C to 340°C on the Peak Pro. Both set 1°C steps in their apps. The Switch 2 goes much lower, which suits low-temp rosin and live resin.
- Stock presets: five on the Switch 2 at 204°C, 227°C, 249°C, 260°C and 282°C. Four on the Peak Pro at 254°C, 266°C, 277°C and 302°C. Both let you edit them in the app.
- Size: 726 g and 229 mm tall against 510 g and 178 mm.
- Heating profiles: six on the Switch 2, including Ascent and Descent. The Peak Pro has four presets plus Boost, Intensity and Stealth modes.
- Inserts and flower: the Switch 2 takes a separately sold Sapphire Plus insert for flavor chasers and a titanium insert for cannabis flower. The Peak Pro is concentrates only.
- Charging: both charge over USB-C with pass-through. The Peak Pro also charges on a Qi pad.
- Price: $420 against $450 at US list price.
Vapor and flavor
The Switch 2 scores 9.5 for vapor against 9.2. Its IR sensor reads the chamber and adjusts power on the fly, and in our sessions the heat held steady through long, hard draws. The Descent profile starts hot and cools off, like a torched quartz banger. On hash rosin between 232°C and 249°C, it felt the most like a real rig.
The Peak Pro is only a step behind, and both run vapor through water in a glass bubbler. Its 3DXL bowl is 78% larger than the standard 3D chamber, and Puffco says the extra depth cuts down on spillover. The XL Joystick carb cap steers air across concentrate pooled in the corners, a hands-on touch we really enjoyed.
Ease of use and apps
The Peak Pro scores 8.5 for ease of use against 8.0. One button runs everything, and haptic buzzes tell you when it's ready. The four onboard profiles work with no phone at all, while the app lets you rewrite them, watch live temperature and install firmware updates. Android uses Puffco Connect, and iPhone uses puffco.app inside the Path Browser.
The Switch 2 keeps five saved presets on its buttons, so it also runs without a phone. The app unlocks hold times from 10 to 90 seconds and all six profiles. It works on Android, and iPhone users go through the LabLink browser. We hit some navigation quirks, such as the phone's back button not working inside it.
Size and upkeep
This is where the Peak Pro wins most, with 6.0 for portability against 4.0. At 510 g, it fits naturally in one hand, though it's still too big for a pocket. The Switch 2 is a tabletop rig at 726 g, closer to a kitchen gadget in looks. It also asks for about 20 minutes of rest after three heat cycles in a row.
Upkeep favors the Switch 2, because you swab the quartz insert after each dab and there's nothing to wear out and rebuy. Handle it gently, though: quartz breaks, and the warranty skips inserts. The Dr. Dabber app also runs a 30-second cleaning assist cycle that loosens stubborn residue before you swab. The Peak Pro's 3DXL chamber needs a swab after every session and a 20-minute alcohol soak for deep cleans, and it wears out over time. Our eRig cleaning guide covers both routines.
Value and battery
The Switch 2 scores 8.0 for value against 7.5. It costs $30 less and adds a Drop hot knife and a 36 W adapter to the kit. The Peak Pro kit includes a carrying case instead.
| In the box | Dr. Dabber Switch 2 | Puffco Peak Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Heater | Titanium chamber with a 20 mm quartz insert | 3DXL ceramic chamber, pre-installed |
| Glass and cap | Glass with a magnetic carb cap | Glass 2.0 bubbler with the XL Joystick carb cap |
| Tools and extras | Drop hot knife | Dab tool, cleaning swabs and carrying case |
| Charging | 36 W adapter and USB-C cable | USB-C cable |
On battery, we got about 14 sessions per charge from the Switch 2 at 204-232°C with 30 to 45 second draws, and 9 to 10 on long 90-second hits at 249°C and up. Dr. Dabber quotes up to 30 heat cycles. Puffco's support page says about 30 for the Peak Pro, and its product page advertises an average of 40 dabs. The Switch 2 refills in 60 to 90 minutes on its 36 W adapter. The Peak Pro takes about two hours, or an hour to 80%.
