The Puffco Peak Pro beats the Zenco Duo, 8.2 to 7.5 in our reviews. It leads on vapor, temperature control and build, which makes it the pick for serious concentrate users. The Duo is the fun, social option: you sip vapor from a glass, and it takes 510 carts too.
Key differences
- Format: a water-filtered eRig with a glass bubbler (Peak Pro); a tabletop vapor cup you sip from (Duo).
- Heat control: real-time temperature regulation on the Peak Pro, with four factory profiles from 254°C to 302°C, all editable in the app. The Duo has four voltage presets instead: Yellow 2.5 V, Blue 3.0 V, Green 3.5 V and Red 4.0 V.
- Heat-up: about 20 seconds on the Peak Pro, by Puffco's figure; the Duo starts filling the glass as soon as you double-tap for autofill.
- What it vapes: concentrates on the Peak Pro; concentrates and 510 carts on the Duo.
- Airflow: the Peak Pro's XL Joystick carb cap steers air across the chamber; the Duo's airflow is fixed.
- Charging: the Peak Pro runs while plugged in; the Duo needs unplugging before use.
- Price: $450 US list price for the Peak Pro, $249 for the Duo.
- Warranty: two years on the Peak Pro base and six months on its chamber; one year on the Duo.
Zenco vs Puffco: vapor and flavor
The Peak Pro heats through its ceramic 3DXL chamber and holds your set temperature through the draw. Vapor then runs through a glass bubbler with laser-cut percolator slots, and the Peak Pro scores 9.2 for vapor against the Duo's 8.0.
The Duo works best with concentrates on its ceramic coil. It also ships with a triple quartz coil, but the ceramic one is the flavor pick. Live resin and rosin gave us flavorful vapor that settles in the glass like fog, and sipping it felt smooth and relaxed. The lower Yellow and Blue presets keep the most strain character.
Flower is the Duo's weak spot, because above the lowest setting our flower sessions tasted harsh and burnt.
Control and ease of use
The Peak Pro runs on a single front button. Four color-coded profiles cover the core dabbing range, and a double buzz tells you when it's ready. The optional app lets you rewrite each profile, watch live temperature and install firmware updates.
The Duo uses a touch sensor instead of a button: five taps for power, three to change voltage and a double tap for autofill. Watching the glass fill with swirling vapor is satisfying every time. Voltage presets aren't temperatures, though, so you can't dial in heat the way the Peak Pro lets you.
Start on Yellow and step up only if the vapor feels thin, and stop filling at the diffuser. Full step-by-step setup is in our Zenco Duo review and Peak Pro review.
Sharing and sessions
This is where the Duo shines. It comes with two glass cups so nobody shares a mouthpiece, and the next glass fills while you sip. On a coffee table, it's a genuine conversation piece.
The Peak Pro is a rig you pass from hand to hand. Puffco's support page puts its battery at about 30 heating cycles per charge. It can also run while plugged in, and it charges wirelessly on a Qi pad.
With carts, the Duo's autofill drains oil fast, and one glass felt like two or three standard cart pulls to us.
Upkeep and running costs
Both have parts that wear out over time. The Peak Pro's 3DXL ceramic chamber is a consumable, covered for six months. The Duo's coils wear out too, and Zenco sells ceramic and quartz five-packs.
Cleaning is easy on both vapes. Swab the Peak Pro's bowl after every session while it's still warm. The Duo's glass goes in the dishwasher once you pull out the silicone diffuser. Never put water in the Duo's glass, since Zenco's warranty excludes liquid damage.
