The Anvil wins this Vestratto matchup, 8.7 to 8.4 overall. It's smaller, easier to run and gives you adjustable airflow and swappable bowls. The Vestratto Tornado pushes clouds even denser, so pick it if you vape mostly through water and want bigger loads.
Key differences
- Bowl size: about 0.1 g in the Anvil's Full Bowl, with Half and XL bowls at 0.05 g and 0.2 g. The Tornado holds about 0.3 g.
- Size: 65 g and 75 mm tall vs 85 g and 95 mm.
- Airflow: the Anvil adjusts by rotating the oven with a hex key. The Tornado leaves airflow to your draw and your stem or glass.
- Heating cue: the Anvil's snap discs click loudly. The Tornado has a temperature-sensing chamber and no click routine.
- Heat-up: Vestratto suggests a slower 40 to 45 second torch cycle on the Anvil while you learn its click. With a single-flame torch, our Tornado heat-ups ran 20 to 35 seconds, and about 20 to 25 seconds on an Ispire Wand.
- Price: $229 US list price for the Anvil. The Tornado WPA package is $208, and the Full Rig is $289.
Vapor: dense vs denser
Vapor scores sit a tenth apart, 9.5 for the Tornado and 9.4 for the Anvil. Both use Vestratto's CopperCore oven to store torch heat and feed it back into the chamber. Aim the torch at the top ring for flavor, or lower for full extraction in one pull.
The Tornado adds a secondary atomizer, and it produced the thickest, smoothest portable vapor we've tested. It's creamy and heavy, trading some flavor detail for raw density, and most of our bowls were done in one or two heat cycles. Through glass, both approach desktop density, and that is where the Tornado really comes alive. Treat each Tornado heat cycle as one big draw, two at most. The Anvil gives you a longer draw window per cycle, which is why it passes around better.
Ease of use and heating
The Anvil leads on ease, 7.5 to 6.8, partly because its snap-disc click is louder than most torch vapes and hard to miss. Vestratto suggests a slower 40 to 45 second heat cycle for beginners, since very fast heating can outrun the click.
The Tornado skips the click routine, so start with short heat cycles and add heat as you learn your unit. Vestratto says each unit heats a little differently, so those first sessions are worth the patience. Bowl care matters too: thread the bowl into a cool oven and back it off slightly, or heat expansion can jam the threads. Never put a cool bowl into a hot oven, either.
Both work with Vestratto's FORGE induction heater if you'd rather skip the flame.
Build and portability
Both bodies are built like tools, 9.8 for the Anvil and 9.6 for the Tornado. The Anvil's 316 stainless steel parts mate with zero play, and it disappears in a closed fist. The Tornado adds a magnetic outer casing, which is what lets it work with induction heaters.
The Anvil also carries better, 8.8 to 8.5 on portability, though you should let it cool fully before it goes in a pocket. It stays hot for a while after a session, and Vestratto handles warranty claims for both case by case.
Water pipes, packages and value
Here the Tornado's two packages matter as much as the vape itself. The WPA package needs your own glass, in 14 mm or 18 mm. The Full Rig adds a dedicated stem, an XL mouthpiece and a spiral filter for dry sessions. Skip the 8 mm Universal Stem Adapter on the Tornado, since Vestratto says it can't carry that oven's weight. Parts don't cross over freely, either. The Tornado's bowls won't fit an Anvil oven, and Vestratto says the Anvil Integrated Stem isn't a supported fit for the Tornado, so plan on the Full Rig or a WPA rather than your Anvil stem. The Anvil takes Vestratto's 14 mm and 18 mm adapters, sold separately, and our water pipe guide covers setup for both.
The Anvil takes value, 7.8 to 7.5. Compare what's in each box rather than the sticker alone, since the cheaper Tornado WPA package still needs your own glass.
Which should you buy?
- Your first Vestratto: the Anvil, for its clear heating cue.
- Pocket carriers: the Anvil, at 65 g.
- Water pipe heavy hitters: the Tornado WPA package.
- Group sessions: the Anvil, since its long draw window makes passing it around practical.
- Big loads with fewer reloads: the Tornado, with its 0.3 g bowl.
Both earn a place on our best butane vaporizers ranking.
